Scaling Questions

“On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with your day today?”
“A solid 8.”
“What might have made today a 9?”
“Hmm. Good question. Not having to wake up at 6 am tomorrow? Or having two extra hours in the day today?”
“What kept today from being a 7?”
“The good mood I woke up in, which stayed with me all day because everything kept going to plan and going well. If I’d woken up feeling less good, my day might have felt like a 7.”
“What can you carry with you into tomorrow to maintain or boost tomorrow’s score?”
“An awareness of well-being, going with the flow and taking one step at a time, trusting in the way I plan my days so that I can know things are very likely to work out the way I want, and a sense of gratitude for my life overall and everything in it.”
“Very good.”

(I love a good end-of-day chat with myself.)

I learnt about scaling questions a few months ago at university and they’ve been a game changer and a life changer. They are so easy to apply everywhere and always make me feel grounded in reality, focused on my resources, and optimistic about next steps.
