Snails put me in a proper duvidha.
If I plant seedlings in my garden (as I did today), they eat them up (which is what they presumably came out to do tonight when I caught as many of them as I could see).
I acknowledge that snails are clever, playful, complex, magnificent creatures and I would love nothing more than to have no conflict of interest with them and to coexist with them in harmony. But I do have a conflict of interest with them.
I don’t have the mental space right now to play around with setting up elaborate deterrents.
So for now, I have collected them all and placed them with all my weeds and other decomposing garden waste. It makes me sad that there are so many because if it was just a few, I would happily sacrifice some of my plants for them. We all need to eat. But this many snails just spells complete and utter doom for my veggie garden, especially while the seedlings are so small.
We are still days away from spring, and as it is I may have planted my seedlings too early. So I have made a decision to evict the snails. I am sad about it. But I have done it.
