  • I was writing nightly and then I missed a whole week. A whole week swallowed whole. No slowing down for nightly reflections. It’s been a good week though, and I slowed down in other ways. I don’t regret missing a few days of writing.

Pencil and I went to Cairo by Nights (Egyptian cuisine) on Lygon St in Carlton for our E country adventure. I loved it, he didn’t. I think we just have different expectations and different ways of experiencing (I was going to say “food” or “nights out” but really it’s so much more than that, it’s practically everything). I also got to try sahlab, a middle eastern drink I’ve been wanting to try since hearing about it from a friend from the region. I love experiencing new things.

We haven’t done F yet and will probably not get around to doing it this week because we’re going away for my birthday. Birthday! How exciting. I am inching towards being one year away from the age I have been looking forward to turning for the past few years.

I have university deadlines coming up. The best thing about university deadlines is how clean my house gets because procrastination. I love that I’m a procrastinate-by-cleaning-and-organizing kind of person rather than a procrastinate-by-doomscrolling kind of person. My wardrobe and home office look fantastic right now and my creative projects have received such a big boost because of my university deadlines. I’ve always maintained this theory that if I have the capacity to achieve x amount of things in any season of my life, I need to schedule in x+2 things for that time and x things will get done. Full potential unlocked. The only problem is the remaining +2 things that I have actually still committed to, so I’ll have to find a way to fit those in as well lol. I definitely can’t afford to let university be among the things that slip between the cracks because the stakes are too high. And also I want to do well at university. I’ll start tomorrow (said every procrastinator ever… lol).

My sensory environment is a really important aspect of me feeling like myself. I’ve had random pop music playing on my Spotify all afternoon/evening today while cleaning/organizing and I’ve felt the most me. Ever since Pencil moved his office to the back of the house and I stopped hearing his (usually very stressful) music, and YouTube vidoes, and video gaming sounds, I’ve felt an unprecedented level of relaxation around the house (at least since we started living together). I don’t always have music playing, I almost never have the TV or videos on, and rarely have the sound on on my phone, so when he’s at the other end of the house and all I’ve got is either silence or my very specifically chosen sounds, my mental peace genuinely skyrockets.

This has been a scattered post at the end of a scattered week. Maybe tomorrow will feel more like I’m on track again. Or maybe it won’t. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Maybe someone knows. All I know is that I don’t.
